Redmine plugins and upgrades of core system

I wonder what happens if one of installed plugins stops being developed.

Will I be able to upgrade core Redmine to newer versions without problems. Of course I will loose plugin functionality, but will the upgraded system be able to run without problems?

You will lose the plugin functionality. Core Redmine will function without problems.
