Where can I learn what's going to be new in Redmine 6?
Added by Steve Gibson 6 months ago
Hi all.
I'm planning to switch from GitLab to Redmine. I'd like to get going on this, but with Redmine 6 seemingly happening soon, and since I don't need to switch this instant, I'm wondering whether it would make sense to wait for major version 6?
The real determiner would be what's new that's coming in release 6? I figure that there must be a list of new features around here somewhere, but I haven't been able to locate it. So... is there such a list? If so, where?
And since I have no experience yet with Redmine, would it make sense to jump onto a brand new major release... or made just remain with the latest proven production release of 5?
Thanks!!
/Steve.

The list contains the tickets that are already committed (usually the tickets are in Resolved / Closed status) and the tickets that are discussed for 6.0.0.

Hi Steve!
You can consult the list of changes in the version page (6.0.0).
Thank you very much for your quick response Marius! I had previously found that list of issues and fixes. What I was hoping to find — and what I think must exist somewhere — is a statement from the project's major developers of the overall “reason” for v6... like a set of major changes and new features, where it made sense to say goodbye to the v5 branches and bump Redmine's major version number to 6.
Is there some well understood “reason” for v6?
Thanks again so much!
/Steve.

- Feature #39111: Enable Asset Pipeline Integration using Propshaft
- Feature #36320: Migrate to Rails 7.2
Most probably, Redmine 7 will be released with support for Rails 8 and so on.
I hope now I answered your question.
