Users and permissions from project to subprojects
Added by Eraldo Girardi about 14 years ago
Hello all,
I have Redmine 1.0.3 (trunk 4362) installed on our server.
Now I have a project with about 80 subproject.
I would know if there is a way to add (many) users to the father project and to propagate them and their permissions/roles to all subprojects.
Even with a sql query directly on the database or a rake task if it's possible.
Any help would be really appreciated

Greetings,
I was looking into this today as well. I wanted to have a newly created subproject inherit members from the parent project. I could not see a way to do this. And I did not find anything on the wiki or forums. (other than this new thread. )
I think adding an option on the new subproject create page to allow for inheriting the parent projects members, all or none, would be a good thing.
(running 1.0.1)
Thanks

P.S. Having the ability to add a user to all sub-projects from the members tab would be needed as well.
Or is there a recommended practice for handling membership and project hierarchy that I am missing?
Thanks

You could use groups, but other than that projects are pretty loose at the moment, so no integration of this sort (yet).

I completely agree with Gerry and his proposal.
Felix, so there is really no way to massively add/edit permissions for a number of users on a number of projects?
Why subprojects don't inherit such properties from their father?
Thank you for your support

Because you might want to have for instance one "external" project for clients and PM's and one internal for all the developers etc. We usually have the client as the top-most project and then lots of different projects with different members etc further down in the hierarchy.

Yes, I understand. But a flag or an option, when adding users to a father project, could really help to save lot of time and click.
Or maybe the project dropdown menu could be made multiselectable so one can add a group of users to a "group" of projects.
