Can I filter available values in list custom field based on project?

I wasn't able to find answer to this by googling.

I have Custom field 'Customer' that lists customers. What I would like to do is filter this list by project as one customer is only relevant to one project but one project can have several customers.

A
B
C

And I want to have values A & B shown in projct X and C in project Y.

Is this possible or do I have to make customer field for each project separately?
