redmine: Does it work better with MySQL/Postgres ?
Added by joseph john about 12 years ago
Hi,
Can I please get a feedback from the core redmine developers whether the application works better with mysql or postgress? We are planning to use a system wide redmine integration which includes redmine core (1.4) + backlogs + csv importer+ Time sheet + Repository functionality.
We could see it works with both the databases although many of the database transactions I found was faster (slightly) on the mysql side. But again the results were varying.
From the forum and googling I dont see any response that any one is favouring a particular database for redmine and the feedback I have some data base experts is the best people who can answer the question will the the core application experts.
So if I have the possibility to start either with mysql or postgress what is your recommendation and reason?
Thanks.

I personnaly run redmine.org with mysql but don't have any particular reasons for that. The Redmine CI server run the test suite with both of them (stock configurations) and they run slightly faster with mysql.
You should just stick with the dbms you're more comfortable with.

Use the database that you know best. All of them do the same thing - keep data and serve them to who wants them.
We use MySQL in our office and the single reason is that I am familiar with MySQL.
