How many of you want free hosted redmine - Couple of people were talking about hosting redmine for public may be monetizing it ,want to know if anybody is doing it sucessfully

Added by saurabh agarwal over 15 years ago

Hi,

From time to time I was reading about people hosting solution based on readmine, I was just wondering how many are doing it.

Will anybody be looking for some free hosting of redmine, what features basically.

Will anybody be ready to pay for some redmine hosting like 4-5$ per month/per project.

Thanks
Saurabh

The largest concern with this from my perspective is security. I could never let a third party host my projects because I don't trust my data with anyone else. Uptime, privacy and reliability are other concerns. How can I know that you suddenly won't stop hosting our redmine projects? How can I know that you won't snoop in our project data? Can you guarantee acceptable uptime? I can't afford that my project server is off line. And don't get me started on all the security questions :p

If you decide to go with this plan you could offer extra services like backup, repositories (not all companies have their own), etc. I hope I didn't sound too negative to your idea, but this is just my opinion. Good luck :)

Kind regards,

Mats.

I would say it depends whether your project is open source or not. It is acceptable for an open source project to be hosted on a third party server (and it is generally the case). For example, Developpez.com, a French community, provides a free hosting for Open Source projects, with Subversion and Redmine : http://projets.developpez.com. I manage this service for Developpez.com, and I can say : a lot of people are interested to use our service. But again, we're talking about Open Source projects here ;)

There is already hosted bitnami images available (http://bitnami.org/learn_more/cloud_images) but obviously being on cloud hosting this is pay-as-you-go. With redmine/ruby et al taking up so much in the way of resources I can't see a viable way of making money from hosting it for free.

I'm planning to setup a free Redmine service for Open Source projects but I need to build some custom plugins for it first (e.g. upload to S3, project registration).

It depends My hosting provider is not generous to give unlimited space and svn reository so I need some money to fund it if I Find some source of income I may host svn repository.

We have also been providing the same free service via http://eganglion.com/

But seems that very less people are interested in the same, Can anybody please comment why there have been no traction.

What cost nothing worth nothing :) But seriously I would not trust my project to something free as it might disappear at any time. On a contrary we have been in business for 8 years and currently offering commercial paid but very affordable Redmine based SaaS solution PMP HQ http://www.pmphq.com with one month free trial and plans starting at $18/moth for up to 10 project (which corresponds to $1.8 per month per project which is more then twice cheaper then price suggested here).

I can't believe I haven't mentioned Planio Redmine Hosting in this thread before ... hint, hint ;-)

But seriously, we've been operating our cluster for almost 3 years now with small to medium sized clients as well as large corporations, such as MTV or the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. We have a free for life plan and paid plans for more ambitious projects. Our SaaS solution remains very close to the original Redmine and has just been upgraded to the latest 1.4.4 version. All our plans come with (unlimited!) hosted SVN and Git repos and we offer some extra features like a pretty complete CRM & Helpdesk app. We do install (and maintain!) Redmine plugins upon request and we take pride in friendly and helpful customer service.

If you have any questions, get in touch with me and my team at support /at/ plan.io or right here in the forums if you like.
