Thin + Redmine: Slow as if it would restart the app after idle

Hello,

I am using Thin as a server behind an Apache2 proxy that's serving 3 instances of Redmine. Whenever I "initially" visit this site, it takes 5 to 10 seconds for it to react, as if it was starting the instance on demand. This would be fine, wouldn't it happen after every single work break.

Can anyone explain to me how idle time is handled in this setup? I couldn't find settings for it, neither for Redmine nor Thin. Or do you think the problem's a different one?

btw: The problem was the same with Passenger.

I could have helped you with passenger, can't say for thin. Have you had a look at their documentation?
