Create a Custom Field that defaults to the Current Date

In Redmine 2.0.* I created a Custom Field in Issues like this:

Name: Deadline
Format: Date
Default value: 2100-01-01

I would like to set the default value to current date. Any idea how this could be achieved?

I'd also love to know how this works. I'd like it to act like how the "Start Date" field defaults to today.

This is not possible with a stock Redmine.
