Parent task is invalid

I am receiving this message after I assign more than one task to a specific task.

Example

Parent Task 239 to 72

Attach Issue 240 to 72 receive Parent task is invalid when saving.

Are both Issues in the same project?

Yes both issues are part of a same project within a project.

And you are trying to make issue 100 parent (or child, doesn't matter in this case) of issue 102?

Also (1) check for any issue relations between the issues, and (2) monitor your logs to see if they can provide more info about why this is happening.

To add to what Pierre is suggesting, I would check to see if the relationship is one of the "copied" relationships because this appears to have been giving me the same issue. I would assume that some relationships such as whether a bug was copied from another should not play into detecting cyclical relationships when assigning a parent/sub tasks but it appears that this may be what is happening at least in Redmine v2.3.1.
