Feature #35082
closedCommunicate end of 4.x development
0%
Description
- the present Redmine release cycle;
- the Maintenance Policy for Ruby on Rails and the Rails release cycle;
- the assumption that Redmine will not bring major Rails upgrades (5.x -> 6.x) in a minor 4.x release;
- that the Rails 6.1 port has already been committed to the trunk;
I conclude that it has been decided to end the 4.x development after the recent 4.2 release.
Yet, I see that this is not clear for (close) community members who are referring to a (potential) 4.3 release (see eg. #30820#note-15, #32424#note-36, #32424#note-37).
This could be solved by addressing this subject in a news post.

Mischa, thanks for reporting this.
Indeed, it was a mistake from my side when I published the post news for 4.2.0, I totally forgot to announce the new maintained versions. Anyway, we're planning to release new maintenance versions this weekend because we have a bunch of important fixes and I will use this occasion to announce the end of support for 4.0.*. Version 4.0.9 it will be the last one from 4.0 series and it will include mostly security fixes. After these releases, versions 4.1.* and 4.2.* will be maintained and 5.0.0 will be the next major release because Rails was already upgraded from 5 to 6.
Hopefully, in the following weeks we will publish a Wiki page which should bring some clarity and predictability over the release policy and maintained versions.
I'm closing this for now, please reopen if something is missing.
