Finished Projects

I have slowly using and getting used to RM. But I am not sure what to do with completed projects? Once all tasks etc are closed, and a project is done, what is the "normal" or recommended work-flow?

Thanks and GREAT product :)

I tend to archive them. It's possible a client might come back with additional work later, so deleting the project is not much of an option.

How can one archive a project? I could not find any such button/link.

Thanks,
Vinod

See the "Managing projects" page in the Redmine Administrator Guide.

Thanks Mischa for pointing the resource. According to document 'An archived project is no longer visible by users'. Is there any concept of marking a project as Closed (read only)?

When a project is "archived" - where is it? Is it extracted to a file or just flagged that way in the database? I looked through the code but it appears to execute a method called "archive" and I could not dig any deeper!

I'd like to be able to:
  • remove archived projects from my server and recover that database / disk space
  • be able to restore them to a different Redmine installation (compatible of course)

Many thanks!

The project and its children will just get marked as archived in the DB. There is no easy way to export and import projects (no uneasy way short of dumping the DB and fiddling with all the ID and stuff either, to be honest). Reclaiming the DB and disk space can be done by deleting the project, that will delete all associated issues, wiki, forums, etc. including attached files.

Felix - thank you for your reply! Unfortunate for my intentions, but at least now I know! Mark

As I understand, an archived project is not visible to the users. What happens when an archived projects should be re-activated? Is there some [easy] way to do so?

In fact, hiding projects makes projects lists more short and handy and this is OK, but it would be great if a user wants to access archived project information, to be able to do this in some way. Is this possible?

Just unarchive the project, see RedmineProjects

No.
