Defect #13758
open
Issue Filtering 'Assignee = <<me>>' shows group issues, but 'Assignee = Bob' does not
Added by Phil Miller over 11 years ago.
Updated almost 2 years ago.
Description
Environment:
Redmine version 2.3.0.stable
Ruby version 1.8.7 (i686-linux)
Rails version 3.2.13
Environment production
Database adapter PostgreSQL
Redmine plugins:
no plugin installed
Contrast these two different results of what should be an identical search (I am 'Phil Miller'). They should both show issues assigned to groups of which I am a member, but only the 'special' <<me>> search actually does.
Are all issues from same project? May the project focus switched?
There's only one project in the Redmine instance. Its name appears in the title and heading of both search result pages. When I add the 'Project' column, that project is listed for all displayed issue in both cases.
Could you verify if PPL is definded as a group?
Yes, PPL is defined as a group.
Ok, and you (Phil Miller) are member of this group? Yes?
So everything works right. It's a feature, not a defect. If you are a member of PPL, this issue is assigned to you, too. If you agree, please set this issue to resolved.
I think you may be interpreting my complaint backwards. The latter search, for 'Assigned to = Phil Miller' should also show the issues assigned to PPL, just like 'Assigned to = <<me>>' does. I want the group issues to appear in searches on individuals who are members of relevant groups.

You are right. When you are logged as 'Phil Miller' and searching for 'Phil Miller' then <<me>> and 'Phil Miller" should give same result.

As an administrator :
If i search projects on which Phil Miller works, it should show projects where Phil is assignee and also projects where the group which he belongs is assigned...
Do we have any way to overcome this problem?
My situation:
I use a reminder plugin which remind me all my issues satisfying some criteria. The problem is that it sends only issues assigned to me, but not those assigned to the group I belong to.
I think that it should by configurable, or add checkbox (with groups).
- Related to Defect #13006: Filter "Assignee's group" doesn't work with group assignments added

version 3.2.1-stable is also affected
- Related to Defect #26078: List of issues per assignee doesn't match in profile added
- Related to Defect #25212: User profile should link to issues assigned to user or his groups added
The behavior is useful for me. I always make use of this behavior when I want to see only issues assigned to me excluding issues assigned to groups.

I just found this issue while searching for a way to show issues assigned specifically to me, and not assigned to my group.
I agree that this behaviour is surprising, but it is useful for some cases.
Correct and non surprising behaviour should be, as mentioned earlier in this thread, that filtering on << me >> or "My Name" show same issues, and add a checkbox to enable/disable including issues assigned through a group.
I also think that queries against the assignee should fully regard the groups because being in an assigned group in fact means that the individual is assigned as well. In my case (multi project management) the current behavior leads to missed tickets e.g. when applying a ToDo-like filter for single individuals.
